Respiratory Care Requirements
Admission requirements for Goodwin’s associate degree in Respiratory Care
To apply to the Respiratory Care program, you must meet specific admission requirements. Please note that meeting these minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance, as there are only a limited number of seats in the program. Admission decisions are based on completion of the required Respiratory Care prerequisites and any other stated requirements. If you are still finishing a course when you apply, your acceptance may be conditional until you submit an official transcript showing you have successfully completed the course.
You must satisfy the following requirements before you can begin RSP 112: Principles of Respiratory Care:
- Complete the application for admission into Goodwin University. Applicants to the Respiratory Care program must first meet the requirements for admission and be accepted into Goodwin University.
- Complete the Respiratory Care program application.
- A signed attestation that applicant possesses the ability to perform the tasks as stated in the Essential Functions of a Respiratory Therapist.
- Earn a minimum GPA of 2.7 in the most recent coursework. College GPA is based on a minimum of 12 completed credits.
- Complete all prerequisite courses
- Complete the following prerequisite courses with a grade of “C” or higher:
- CHEM 1XX - Chemistry Elective with a laboratory component
- MATH 1XX - Mathematics Elective
- Complete the following prerequisite courses with a grade of “C+” or better:
- BIO 211 - Anatomy & Physiology I completed within the last five years
Note: BIO 120 - Human Biology with a laboratory component or equivalent is a prerequisite for BIO 211. - BIO 212 - Anatomy & Physiology II completed within the last five years
Note: Applicants meeting all other requirements can be admitted conditionally without completing BIO 212. However, this course must be successfully completed prior to starting the Respiratory Care program. - BIO 235 - Microbiology completed within the last ten years
- BIO 211 - Anatomy & Physiology I completed within the last five years
- Interview with the program director
- Personal essay
Respiratory Care applicants who have satisfied all of the admission criteria will be selected according to the point system found in the catalog.
Graduation requirements
Students must complete all general associate degree graduation requirements as stated in the academic catalog. In addition, students must complete all Respiratory Care core courses with a minimum grade of “C.”
