Post-master’s Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Certificate Admission Requirements

Graduate admission requirements

Applicants to the post-master’s PMHNP certificate program must meet the general graduate admission requirements of Goodwin University.

Applicants are required to:

  • Complete a graduate application for admission
  • Pay a $50 non-refundable application fee (waived for Goodwin University graduates)
  • Submit an official or unofficial transcript verifying receipt of a bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the equivalent of this degree from another country with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0*
  • Submit an official or unofficial transcript from your most recent degree earned (this may be from prelicensure) with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0*
  • Provide a professional resume
  • Submit proof of immunizations (measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella)

* If an unofficial transcript is provided for admission, an official transcript is required within 30 days of application.

PMHNP certificate program-specific requirement

In addition to meeting the University’s admission requirements, applications to the PMHNP certificate program must also:

  • Provide a current, unencumbered RN license (California licenses are not eligible. Certain states may have additional limitations. Please contact Admissions for details)
  • Submit an official or unofficial transcript verifying receipt of a master’s degree in nursing
  • Have a minimum of 2+ years of direct patient care RN experience obtained within the last five years
  • Complete a college-level statistics course with a grade of “C” or higher.
  • Complete a college-level research course with a grade of “C” or higher
  • Complete a master’s-level Health Assessment, Pathophysiology, and Pharmacology course with a grade of “B” or higher
  • Complete a master’s-level Nursing Theory course with a grade of “B” or higher
  • Write a formal 800-1000 word personal statement of their nursing career goals focused on the track applying for
  • Submit two letters of recommendation
  • Pass a background check and drug screening
  • Be able to travel significant distances to clinical sites, if necessary
