What are the types of open enrollment policies?
There are two types of open enrollment policies:
- Intradistrict open enrollment - Students transfer to another school within their resident school district, and
- Interdistrict open enrollment - Students transfer to another school outside of their resident school district.
What is the difference between a mandatory and voluntary open enrollment policy?
Connecticut has voluntary intradistrict policies and voluntary and mandatory interdistrict policies within specific districts.
A voluntary open enrollment policy allows schools or districts to decide whether they will accept students who live outside their attendance area school.
A mandatory open enrollment policy tries to reduce racial, ethnic, and economic isolation to balance the school’s student population.
