About Goodwin

Our Student Population

Operating under an open enrollment model, Goodwin seeks to admit all students who have academic potential, regardless of past performance. Once admitted, students have access to a variety of tools to help them excel, including counseling, tutoring, and career placement services.

As a result of this inclusive approach, Goodwin is one of the most diverse colleges in the state, with over half of our students being the first in their families to pursue higher education.

In 2010, Goodwin extended its educational vision to the secondary level by creating the Connecticut River Academy (CTRA) magnet high school, which focuses strongly on environmental science. CTRA moved into its permanent home on the banks of the Connecticut River in 2014. This unique location enables students to use the river and surrounding wetlands as their outdoor classroom. CTRA’s school themes include demonstrating self and global awareness, respect for diversity, and the impact of individual and social actions and decision on the community of life.

In 2013, Goodwin expanded its campus further by opening the Riverside Magnet School (formerly the Goodwin College Early Childhood Magnet School). Based on the Reggio Emilia approach, a widely recognized model for excellence in education, the school provides young children with an authentic, caring, supportive learning environment.

In 2014, Pathways Academy of Technology and Design, operated by Hartford Public Schools, moved into its permanent home on Goodwin’s campus. The Academy serves more than 400 students and features state-of-the-art labs and learning spaces that facilitate students in becoming active participants in today’s global, technology-driven society.

Our Students

While our students come from diverse backgrounds, they are united by a single purpose — improving their lives through education. We have continued the face-to-face service and career-relevant opportunities that our students have come to expect by expanding student service departments such as Career Services and Academic Advising. We continue to seek new opportunities for growth in order to serve our students as efficiently and effectively as possible.
