Community Service Opportunities

Students can participate in a variety of on and off campus volunteer opportunities throughout the year.

What Counts as Community Service?

  • Completed at a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization or serves a community or skill in need.
  • Without receiving payment or remuneration for services completed.

What Counts as Philanthropy?

  • The desire to promote the welfare of others, expressed especially by the generous donation of money or gifts in kind to good causes.
  • Donated to a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, TU Foundation, public school, religious organization or a community in need.
  • Without receiving payment or remuneration for donation.

Fall 2016 On Campus Opportunities

Welcome Week (9/6 - 9/12)
During this week-long event, new students are offered a chance to discover resources available to them inside and outside of the Goodwin College community. Students have a chance to meet student leaders, staff, and community members and enjoy snacks, music and games. Be a part of creating a warm environment for new students during the first week of classes each semester.

Source to Sea (9/23 and 9/24)
The Source to Sea Cleanup is an annual trash cleanup of the Connecticut River system it is sponsored by the Connecticut River’s Watershed Council. This includes CT rivers, streams and banks, parks, boat launches, trails and more. Each fall, thousands of volunteers of all ages and abilities head out to places of their choice all along the four-state watershed (NH, VT, MA, CT) to clean the Connecticut River and its tributaries on foot or by boat.

This year, our efforts will be focused here on Goodwin’s campus. If you are interested in participating, please contact Nicole Miller, Director of Student Engagement at NMiller@goodwin.edu for details.

Coffee Service (10/22) Each year, various community groups use Goodwin College’s campus for their activities and events. Goodwin College students provide coffee and snacks groups’ participants. If you are interested in please contact Nicole Miller, Director of Student Engagement.

Keep it Poppin’ (10/26)
Be that encouraging force for students who find themselves struggling mid-semester and “keep them poppin’” by greeting them with a smiling face and making and offering popcorn and snacks.

Fall Fun Fair (10/29)
Children and adults are invited to dress in festive costumes, play games and trick-or-treat at the Fall Fun Fair held every Halloween. Volunteers are there to provide guests with a fun and spooky experience and are also invited to dress in costume and join the fright of the night.

Refueling for Finals (12/5 - 12/9)
As a way of wishing students well on their exams, we offer snacks and refreshments to help get them through a stressful time before finals week. Spread positive energy to students needing it by volunteering for Refueling for Finals.

Fall 2016 Off Campus Opportunities

Town of East Hartford Mayoral Clean-Up (9/10)
Mayor Marcia Leclerc is pleased to announce that the annual Mayor’s Cleanup Day will take place Saturday, September 10, 2016, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. The one day event is an expansion of Mayor Leclerc’s town wide beautification efforts. The Mayor is looking for volunteers from local youth groups, churches, organizations, civic clubs, businesses and individuals to join her in the effort.

Hartford Marathon (10/8)
The Eversource Hartford Marathon is always looking for energetic volunteers to help achieve its mission of promoting health and fitness within the community. There are a variety of opportunities to choose from, especially on race day in October! Volunteers enjoy a number of benefits and ensure that the day is exciting for all of those involved.

Apple Harvest (10/14 - 10/16)
Each year the Glastonbury Apple Harvest Festival is rated as one of the best annual events in the entire state. Last year over 15,000 attendees came out to enjoy a memorable weekend. This next year promises to be the biggest and best in the festival’s storied history.
