My husband and I chose to buy a home in a suburban town due in large part to the good public school system, but eventually we came to feel that the educational philosophy and teaching style of the Riverside Magnet School were more in line with what we believed. We believe that a school should follow the pace of the students individually.

I have noticed a tremendous development and unlimited creativity in my children since they started school. My children want to go to school. The teachers embrace them and they are learning to think for themselves.

I was attracted to the Riverside Magnet School at Goodwin College for my daughter primarily because of the Reggio Emilia philosophy. I soon found that the school exceeded my expectations.

I was very impressed with the Riverside Magnet School because young children are at an age where they’re exploring and it’s great to be a part of a school that supports that.

Not only do those enrolled in the Riverside Magnet School benefit from being part of a growing, dynamic college community, but the college community benefits from having a progressive magnet school right on campus. Goodwin students majoring in Early Childhood Education are able to use the magnet school as a learning platform.

Education is always evolving, so it’s great that our children have access to these dynamic teaching styles.

I sought out the Riverside Magnet School at Goodwin College for my son based on its reputation. I had heard a lot of positive feedback through word-of-mouth. There has been a lot of buzz about the school.

I’ve attended many workshops on the Reggio Emilia concept, an enriching exploratory approach to education based on the interests of children, and I’ve become a total fan of that philosophy.

I also was searching for a school that was diverse. The Riverside Magnet School learning atmosphere is enhanced greatly by diversity Having students and teachers from all areas of the state and from many different ethnicities, races, and backgrounds gives the students a depiction of the real world.

Riverside Magnet School came highly recommended to us when it was time for my son to enter preschool. While the schools in our district are wonderful, we felt that Riverside Magnet School was the best choice for our family because of the diversity of students and staff and the Reggio Emilia approach to learning.

Over the 4 years we have been at RMS, this approach has allowed my children to be active participants in the direction of their learning driven by their interests, which keeps them engaged and excited about learning. We have seen how this fosters independence, creativity, inventiveness, a love of exploration, and awareness of their environment while also appreciating their individuality.

I would encourage families interested in learning more about our RMS to visit and see it for yourselves! You can feel it when you walk in the door — it is a very special place.

When I walked into Riverside Magnet School for the first time, I was at a loss for words. I noticed the positive, community-driven atmosphere right away.

I didn’t like the curriculum at the school my twin daughters were attending at the time. When I came to Riverside, I loved it immediately. The school was not something I was used to growing up in Hartford.

In order to get to school, my twins take a bus from Hartford to East Hartford. This is the best school I’ve come across for them. It could be easier for them to go to a neighborhood school, but it’s worth it because I want to give them hope and an opportunity.

My daughter has flourished since beginning at the Riverside Magnet School. The school fosters a sense of creativity and the teachers really take advantage of how imaginative children are in their early years.

The aesthetic of the magnet school building was very appealing to me. The building is beautiful with lots of natural light. You can tell it was intentionally designed to carry out the Reggio Emilia approach.

I know my daughter is exactly where she should be. I can’t imagine a school in Greater Hartford where students would get a better start, or where they would be more respected as young learners than the Riverside Magnet School at Goodwin College. My daughter has the opportunity to learn and grow so beautifully here.

As a Goodwin College alumna, my experience attending Goodwin was so positive and rewarding — I really felt like I was part of a community. I knew my son would be in good hands at Riverside Magnet School.

I really like the diversity that the RMS community has. With students from so many different towns, I feel it provides a better experience and allows my child to be around other students that he would not meet at his hometown school. He can learn things from others and I think that’s the beauty of RMS — so many different communities coming together as one.
