Health inspectors may observe restaurants, schools and childcare centers, factories, grocery stores, and an array of other public spaces where health is a priority.<\/p>\n<p>While health inspectors carry out their work in a variety of settings, they are typically employed by a government agency, such as a state\u2019s Department of Public Health. Because of this, most health inspectors are expected to have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodwin.edu\/majors\/public-health\/\">bachelor\u2019s degree<\/a>, combined with coursework or experience in the field of public health. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, health inspectors should hone skills in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Written and oral communication<\/strong>, in order to effectively communicate safety instructions, deliver safety training, and prepare written reports.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Technology<\/strong>, as health inspectors often work with complex testing equipment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Detailed investigations, <\/strong>by ensuring a careful eye for small details and a solid understanding of current health and safety regulations.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Problem-solving, <\/strong>in order to assess situations and implement safety procedures that protect workers from hazardous conditions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Physical stamina, <\/strong>as health inspectors may stand for long periods of time, travel regularly, or work within tight quarters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>Get licensed and certified. <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Certification requirements vary state to state.
