Jesline Rosario is enthusiastic about exercising and staying fit. She enjoys running on gravel tracks, street sidewalks, and scenic nature trails. In her spare time, she esteems memorable moments with her family and friends, and she especially appreciates the canine company of her two-year-old lab terrier, Mocha. <\/span>In between core workouts, w<\/span>ith a bowl of kettle corn or a plate of pizza rolls, Jesline binges shows like\u202f<\/span>Law and Order SVU<\/span><\/i>\u202fand\u202f<\/span>The Office<\/span><\/i>. With her favorite <\/span>colors<\/span> green and blue, it should be no surprise that she is a fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Celtics.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Captivated by Connecticut River Academy\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>
\n<\/span>Focused on her future from a young age and captivated <\/span>by<\/span> the school\u2019s sustainability themes, Jesline applied to\u202f<\/span>Connecticut River Academy<\/span><\/a>\u202f(CTRA), Goodwin University\u2019s <\/span>magnet high school in East Hartford, Connecticut, when she was 13-years old.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Raised in East Hartford the majority of her life, after <\/span>careful <\/span>consideration, \u201cattending Connecticut River Academy taught me to push m<\/span>yself,\u201d Jesline acknowledged. \u201cAnd w<\/span>hat I liked best<\/span> about the school was its<\/span> ability for\u202f<\/span>active student leadership roles<\/span><\/a>.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The student body president of her high school class i<\/span>n 2015, Jesline, was a part of CTRA\u2019s <\/span>early college model<\/span><\/a>; <\/span>a<\/span> dual enrollment structure <\/span>that <\/span>allows<\/span> students <\/span>to earn<\/span> college credits by taking classes at Goodwin University while simultaneously attending high school.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was able to get electives and required classes out of the way,\u201d Jesline shared.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As a graduate from CTRA, Jesline earned 20+ credits towards her college car<\/span>eer, eliminating over a year of higher <\/span>educational expenses.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A flexible criminal justice curriculum\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>
\n<\/span>When moving <\/span>on <\/span>to<\/span> her<\/span> college career<\/span>, Jesline was looking for a<\/span>n<\/span> adaptable<\/span> education that would allow her to customize her classes while working full-time. From her previous experiences, Jesline recognized the value in Goodwin University\u2019s\u202f<\/span>adaptable academics<\/span><\/a>. With a profound interest in law enforcement after watching shows like\u202f<\/span>Law and Order<\/span><\/i>, Jesline applied and soon enrolled in Goodwin\u2019s\u202f<\/span>Associate in Criminal Justice<\/span><\/a> program.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was able to <\/span>tailor<\/span> my classes<\/span> to<\/span>\u202f<\/span>work around my schedule<\/span><\/a>,\u201d Jesline approached appreciatively. \u201cAt times, I was working one, or even two jobs, while in school full-time.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u202f\u201cI loved taking online classes too,<\/span>\u201d she specified. \u201cI could take my classwork wherever and whenever I wanted.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Profound professors <\/span><\/b>with a passion for <\/span><\/b>Public S<\/span><\/b>afety\u00a0<\/span><\/b>
\n<\/span>Former vice p<\/span>resident of the Criminal Justice Club, Jesline\u2019s experience with Goodwin\u2019s innovative learning platforms <\/span>were<\/span> positive<\/span> and her interactions with the university\u2019s professors were <\/span>also <\/span>admirable.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

From 1:1 sit-down conversations to open-forum classroom styles, Jesline articulated the impact\u202f<\/span>Kimberly Myers, <\/span>Ed.D<\/span><\/a>, Program Director of Criminal Justice and Public Safety and Security, had on her life- not only as a learner<\/span>,<\/span> but a young woman.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the moment you walked in Kim\u2019s classroom to the moment you walked out, you knew that you were being taught by an educator who truly cared about you and valued what you had to say. Kim\u2019s classroom style kept me observant, open, and wanting to bett<\/span>er myself through my education. <\/span>She has been there for me through<\/span> it all, and I truly appreciate her help and support,\u201d Jesline pointed out.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When she graduated with her Associate degree in Criminal Justice, Jesline didn\u2019t stop there. Not long after, she decided to stay on Goodwin grounds and enrolled in the\u202f<\/span>Bachelor’s Degree in Public Safety and Security program<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

An institution that prides itself on inclusivity\u00a0<\/span><\/b>
\n<\/span>While continuing on her collegiate course, Jesline knew that the multi-cultural community within Goodwin\u2019s walls weren\u2019t commonplace in other institutions.\u202f\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>The diverse student body<\/span>\u202fopened my mind and impacted my way of thinking.\u201d Jesline shared. \u201cPeople ranged in age, race, gender, and ethnicity, and it was a safe and enriching environment. Through debates and discussions, I was exposed to a variety of different beliefs and cultures, all of which were celebrated.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

From classroom to c<\/span><\/b>ommunity service\u00a0<\/span><\/b>
\n<\/span>With two degrees at twenty-years-old, since graduating from Goodwin University, Jesline has obtained a career as a state of Connecticut Judicial Marshal Trainee.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are the law enforcement and police officers in the court system,\u201d Jesline enlightened. \u201cWe protect the judges, citizens, victims, and accused through security and order in the courtroom.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cur<\/span>rently a student of the Nutmeg S<\/span>tate\u2019s judicial academy, Jesline is hopeful for her professional prospects; and she is looking forward to moving through the ranks in the judicial marshal sector.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With the ability to interact with citizens and those highly ranked in the criminal justice system, \u201cI find it rewarding already,\u201d she relayed.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A real Goodwin-go-getter, Jesline\u2019s academic adventure is also far from over. She is firm on her plans to take success one step further, to pursue her master\u2019s degree in teaching to instruct <\/span>future <\/span>pupils on public safety and security.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When becoming a member of the Public Safety and Security field, Jesline felt a sense of belonging.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGiving back to the community helps yourself and others\u201d she explained, \u201c<\/span>Judicial marshals help <\/span>build and maintain a safe surrounding for all.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With oaths to serve and protect the community, \u201cto me, community means to come together for a higher purpose and meaning.\u201d Jesline opened up. \u201cCommunity is a group of people with similar goals who want the environment and society to be better.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Now waiting for social distancing restr<\/span>ictions to be lifted after the C<\/span>oronavirus outbreak, Jesline and her academy class are studying and wo<\/span>rking out, awaiting the a-okay<\/span> to return.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When asked what to keep in mind when writing about Jesline\u2019s alma mater, \u201csome students might overlook Goodwin,\u201d she confessed cautiously.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBut I know I learned very quickly just how great Goodwin<\/span> really<\/span> is, and I would not have changed the school or my college experience for anything.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
