Connecticut River Academy Receives NEASC Accreditation<\/strong>
Meeting rigorous standards speaks to high-quality education<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

East Hartford, CT \u2014\nIn April 2019, the Connecticut River Academy (CTRA) received notice that it had\nbeen granted accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and\nColleges, Inc. (NEASC), an independent,\nvoluntary, nonprofit membership organization that serves more than 1,500\npublic, independent, and international schools in the US and\nworldwide. CTRA is a sustainability-themed magnet high school on the campus of\nGoodwin College, focusing on environmental science and advanced manufacturing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEASC\nmember schools are required to undertake a self-study every 10 years in\npreparation for a decennial visit. The self-study examines in detail how closely\na school aligns with each of NEASC\u2019s Standards for Accreditation. These\nconclusions provide guidance for strengthening and supporting the school’s\non-going efforts to improve its practices for teaching and learning. A visiting\nteam\u2019s conclusions ultimately provide the Commission on Public Secondary\nSchools with information that will affect the school’s continued accredited\nstatus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the letter of\nnotification, NEASC president and CEO Cameron C. Staples <\/strong>wrote, \u201cA\nsuccessful self-study and team visit require the efforts of many individuals.\nAccreditation signifies that \u2018peers\u2019 have made a favorable judgement about the\nquality of education available at your school. The achievement is special and\nthe officers of the Association wish to recognize and congratulate you on your\nsuccess.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CTRA\u2019s\naccreditation was recognized at an awards ceremony in Burlington,\nMassachusetts, on December 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBeing present to\ncelebrate Connecticut River Academy’s NEASC accreditation serves as an official\nvalidation of the pride we already take in the innovative work we do,\u201d\ncommented CTRA\u2019s principal, Tara Amatrudo<\/strong>. \u201cLearning that we are\nactually the only US secondary school to earn our initial accreditation\nfrom NEASC this year makes it feel that much more special. I believe that\nmeeting NEASC\u2019s rigorous standards for accreditation is one more way for\nus to let our families know that their children are receiving the\nhigh-quality education they deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CTRA\u2019s\ncurriculum challenges students to reach their full academic potential through\nhands-on learning and discovery. Of particular note is CTRA\u2019s inclusion in the\nEarly College Advanced Manufacturing Program (ECAMP\u2122). High school students experience a rigorous collegiate\nacademic program, earning up to 37 college credits. The skills acquired can be applied\nto a variety of in-demand careers, and the credits can be transferred to other\ncollege degree programs, including Goodwin\u2019s bachelor\u2019s degree in Manufacturing\nManagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThrough ECAMP, CTRA offers high school students a jump start on identifying potential careers, acquiring real-world skills outlined by state employers, and experiencing the discipline of college-level studies,\u201d said Craig Drezek<\/strong>, Superintendent of Goodwin College Magnet Schools and Educational Partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
