Connecticut professor Brittney L. Yancy<\/strong> was recently announced as a United State of Women Ambassador as part of a new program to train and equip women to take action for gender equality in their communities. The United State of Women\u2019s first class of Ambassadors includes 22 women who represent 20 cities across the United States.<\/p>\n

The Ambassador program is part of The United State of Women\u2019s broader effort to achieve one million actions on gender equality in 2018. The initiative was announced at the 2018 United State of Women Summit, where 6,000 women and allies from across the country came together to connect, collaborate, and inspire each other to turn passion into action.<\/p>\n

Ms. Yancy will lead a local organizing project on an issue that the community identifies as critical to achieving gender equality across the state of Connecticut, ranging from economic empowerment to women\u2019s health, to access to education, to civic engagement. As a first step, she will convene local leaders, organizations, and engaged individuals for a Community Listening Session on August 22, 2018, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Connecticut Public Broadcasting at 1049 Asylum Avenue Hartford, CT. Participants at this meeting will set the goals for the year and commit to taking tangible steps for change.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe USOW-Greater Hartford initiative seeks to galvanize all women in Connecticut and develop an intersectional, inclusive gender equality platform,\u201d said Yancy. \u201cI\u2019m excited to partner with the women and allies of Connecticut to organize around progressive issues such as gender-based violence, reproductive rights, LGBTQIA rights, Immigrant rights, civil rights, and workers\u2019 rights.<\/p>\n

Yancy is an Assistant Professor of Humanities at Goodwin College and a doctoral candidate in U.S. History at the University of Connecticut. She also works with the UCONN Collaborative to Advance Equity Through Research on Women and Girls of Color.<\/p>\n

The Ambassador program is part of The United State of Women\u2019s broader effort to achieve one million actions on gender equality in 2018.
