The Histotechnician programs at Goodwin College could lead to you to\u00a0an exciting career preparing biological tissues for diagnosis, an essential process in biology and medicine today.<\/p>\n<p>Histology, to break it down, is the study of microscopic anatomy of cells and tissue of plants and animals. Histotechnicians and Histotechnologists \u2013 two important roles in this field \u2013 examine thin sections of tissue under light microscopes and electron microscopes. In a medical laboratory setting, for example, a histotechnologist might assess body tissue samples for disease \u2013 if it\u2019s present, if it has spread, and, in congruence with a doctor, if treatment is necessary.<\/p>\n<p>In Goodwin\u2019s Histotechnician programs, you will gain hands-on experience in the lab, learning how to detect tissue abnormalities and appropriate testing for tissue samples to ensure proper diagnoses. According to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/salary.com\/\">Salary.com<\/a>, Histotechnicians in Connecticut earn an average salary of $61K+. It\u2019s is a promising and fast-growing field in which you could enjoy a long, secure, and successful career.<\/p>\n<p>In the associate Histology program, you will gain direct lab experience assessing the microscopic anatomy of cells and tissues, testing tissue samples, and detecting any abnormalities. You can also expect to take specialized <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodwin.edu\/majors\/histology\/as-degree-curriculum\">histology classes<\/a> in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Medical Terminology<\/li>\n<li>Medical Law and Ethics<\/li>\n<li>Histology Techniques<\/li>\n<li>Concepts of Fixation and Staining<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At Goodwin, histology courses are flexible and offered both on-campus or in a hybrid format, which combines the best of both on-campus and online learning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Get Certified While Earning Your Degree<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students enrolled in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodwin.edu\/majors\/histology\/as-degree\">associate degree in Histology<\/a> will also be enrolled in our certificate in Histologic Science. After you\u2019ve successfully completed Goodwin\u2019s general education requirements and the associate degree credits, you\u2019ll earn <strong><em>both<\/em><\/strong> the certificate in Histologic Science and the associate degree in Histology. The certificate program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll also be eligible to sit for the Histotechnician (HT) Board of Registry exam, administered by the American Society for Clinical Pathologists. If you have a baccalaureate degree, you may also be eligible to sit for the Histotechnologist (HTL) national examination. And your chances of passing are pretty great! As of June 2015, 100% of Goodwin College Histotechnician graduates have passed the ASCP Board of Registry Certification Exam!<\/p>\n<p>In Connecticut, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodwin.edu\/majors\/histology\/career-options\">histology technician careers<\/a> are vast.
