On Wednesday, May 17, 2017, Goodwin College is proud to present \u201cStrategize to Win: A Conversation with Carla Harris,\u201d the latest offering in Vital Voices: The T. Boone Pickens Endowed Lecture Series in Education, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n

Carla Harris, Managing Director and Senior Client Advisor at Morgan Stanley and author of \u201cExpect to Win,\u201d is one of the most powerful and respected women in business. \u201cCarla\u2019s pearls\u201d of wisdom have become the centerpieces for her many speeches and television appearances. At the Vital Voices event, Ms. Harris will share strategies for surviving and thriving in any workplace environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith a student body that currently comprises more than 80% women, this is an ideal setting for a speaker like Carla Harris,\u201d remarked Brooke Penders, Vice President for Advancement at Goodwin. \u201cThese students make great sacrifices in setting new life goals for themselves. Her message is rooted in the power of authenticity. It would be difficult to find someone who speaks with such truth and confidence. What an amazing example for our students \u2014 and for all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

In her position with Morgan Stanley, Ms. Harris is responsible for increasing client connectivity to enhance revenue generation. She has extensive experience in the technology, media, retail, telecommunications, transportation, industrial, and healthcare sectors. In\u00a0 2013, she was appointed by President Barack Obama to chair the National Women\u2019s Business Council.<\/p>\n

Ms. Harris\u2019 accolades include being named to Fortune Magazine<\/em>\u2019s \u201c50 Most Powerful Black Executives in Corporate America,\u201d U. S. Bankers<\/em> \u201cTop 25 Most Powerful Women in Finance,\u201d Black Enterprise<\/em>\u2019s \u201cTop 75 Most Powerful Women in Business\u201d and \u201cTop 75 African Americans on Wall Street,\u201d Essence Magazine<\/em>\u2019s \u201c50 Women Who are Shaping the World,\u201d Ebony<\/em>\u2019s \u201cPower 100\u201d and \u201c15 Corporate Women at the Top.\u201d She was honored as \u201cWoman of the Year\u201d by the Harvard Black Men\u2019s Forum and the Yale Black Men\u2019s Forum. Ms. Harris is actively involved in her community and heartily believes that \u201cwe are blessed so that we can be a blessing to someone else.\u201d In her other life, she is a singer and has released three gospel CDs: \u201cCarla\u2019s First Christmas,\u201d \u201cJoy Is Waiting,\u201d and \u201cUnceasing Praise.\u201d In addition to \u201cStrategize to Win,\u201d she is also the author of 2009\u2019s \u201cExpect to Win.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Vital Voices event will also serve as the official kickoff announcement of the newly established Connecticut chapter \u2014 or pod \u2014 of Believe. Inspire. Grow. (B.I.G.), an organization that provides the inspiration, tools, and community to help women become the best versions of themselves.<\/p>\n
