And one great option is to pursue a career as a phlebotomist. You can start it here at Goodwin.<\/p>\n<p>Right now the demand for phlebotomists is on the rise, with an additional 28,100 jobs&nbsp;&mdash; 140,800 in total&nbsp;&mdash; expected by the year 2024, according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bls.gov\/ooh\/healthcare\/home.htm\">Bureau of Labor Statistics<\/a>. The job outlook is expected to grow by 25% in that time, much faster than the average growth rate of other careers!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe healthcare and social assistance major sector is expected to become the largest employing major sector during the projections decade, overtaking the state and local government major sector and the professional and business services major sector,\u201d the BLS said.<\/p>\n<p>With an aging baby boomer population and a health insurance reform in effect, the number of individuals seeking professional medical care is bound to climb. As this number grows, so will the demand for qualified healthcare professionals who are ready to take on the job.<\/p>\n<p>While preparing for a career as a phlebotomist, there is incredible value to be found in the hands-on, experiential learning opportunities provided through in depth healthcare internships. Learn this important skill in hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, blood donor centers, and other locations that will need phlebotomists to perform bloodwork.<\/p>\n<p>At Goodwin College, we watch students with phlebotomy internships at dozens of healthcare locations around the state, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Connecticut Children\u2019s Medical Center<\/li>\n<li>Hartford Hospital<\/li>\n<li>Francis Hospital<\/li>\n<li>New England Urgent Care<\/li>\n<li>MedCare Express<\/li>\n<li>Grove Hill Medical Center (now Starlings Physicians)<\/li>\n<li>Vernon Endocrinology<\/li>\n<li>Hartford Cardiology<\/li>\n<li>Connecticut Chiropractic<\/li>\n<li>Enfield Health and Wellness<\/li>\n<li>Kids Station Pediatrics<\/li>\n<li>Access Healthcare<\/li>\n<li>Dermatology Surgical Associates of Hartford<\/li>\n<li>East Hartford Pediatrics<\/li>\n<li>Living Well Primary Care<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Goodwin students are also encouraged to take advantage of our great Career Services department, which helps find phlebotomy internships across the state and finds our graduates great positions after completing their certification.
