This summer, these factors underpinned a significant new initiative at Goodwin: inviting nonprofits across the region to nominate candidates for its new scholarship. The response was overwhelming: nearly four times more nominations came in than expected, illustrating the urgent need for leadership development and the increasing demand for support in today\u2019s sociopolitical climate.<\/p>\n

Tyler Havens<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\u201cCurrently, I am the director of operations at Hartford Land Bank, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that acquires vacant, blighted, abandoned, and\/or tax delinquent properties, including structures and vacant lots from the City of Hartford. We work with local developers, nonprofits, and community organizations to renovate dilapidated properties, construct new housing, or find alternative options for vacant lot reactivation.<\/em><\/p>\nNow more than ever, I plan to expand my network, spread my roots, and elevate my leadership skills in the area where I grew up. While the nonprofit world is currently a challenging sector to work in given our country\u2019s division, I am eager to grow the organization I work at while simultaneously improving my personal and professional skills and attributes.<\/strong> All of this is in an effort to grow into the leader I know I can be.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\nDanielle Chenard \u2014 Connecticut Children\u2019s<\/h3>\n

Words can’t adequately express my gratitude. I do not take this opportunity for granted and understand what a privilege and blessing it is to have earned a scholarship.
