{"id":111,"date":"2015-06-08T11:34:19","date_gmt":"2015-06-08T15:34:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.goodwin.edu\/enews\/?p=111"},"modified":"2024-12-16T16:38:42","modified_gmt":"2024-12-16T21:38:42","slug":"nursing-and-ota-students-working-together-for-common-cause","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.goodwin.edu\/enews\/nursing-and-ota-students-working-together-for-common-cause\/","title":{"rendered":"Nursing and Occupational Therapy Assistant Students Working Together For Common Cause"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Interprofessional collaboration is a partnership between a team of healthcare providers that allows for a synergistic influence of knowledge and skill to make decisions regarding health issues and improve patient outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>Goodwin&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodwin.edu\/majors\/nursing\/\">nursing<\/a> students and faculty along with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodwin.edu\/majors\/occupational-therapy-assistant\/\">Occupational Therapy Assistant<\/a> (OTA) students and faculty embarked on this collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>Jan Costello, Nursing Department Chair and Associate Professor, initiated the implementation.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The idea stemmed from a discussion I had with an RN-to-BSN consultant,&rdquo; Costello noted. &ldquo;I turned to the literature that supported interprofessional education.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>First semester nursing students and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodwin.edu\/majors\/occupational-therapy-assistant\/\">OTA<\/a> students enrolled in Case Studies in Occupational Therapy worked together for four two-hour sessions.<\/p>\n<p>Teamwork and collaboration is a very important aspect of nursing education.
