Why did you decide to pursue your higher education in the United States and specifically at Goodwin College?
The United States is a global diversity pot, and I found it critical to have a world-view perspective in my higher education. The world today is so interconnected, and there is a need to learn from other cultures. I heard about Goodwin College through a friend who encouraged me to apply. After doing some research, I found myself intrigued by the courses and methods of teaching.
Did you have any problems adjusting to life in a new city or college? If so, how did you overcome them?
Coming from a different country with a different culture, acclimatizing was not as difficult as I envisioned. The Goodwin community is very welcoming and accommodating. I made many friends along the way who showed me around the city, where to get certain home comforts, and where and how to get situated in my new life.
What was it like to be a part of the Goodwin Community as an international student?
As an international student, I learned a lot about how my culture related to others and vice-versa. Goodwin has a large non-traditional student population that provides a wide variety of perspectives from different age groups, culture groups, and experiences. As an international student, I felt I was in a community that genuinely cared about me.
Tell us about your OPT application process? How did you find your current job? Did you use any of Goodwin resources?
The International Programs office had workshops that walked me through the application process and provided resources to successfully obtain OPT confirmation at the end of the application process. The Career Services department is a great resource in the job application process. They offer resume checks and mock interviews to students to prepare them to succeed.
What would you say to international students who are considering studying at Goodwin College?
Goodwin College is a great school. There is always a friendly staff or faculty member willing to help. The College is very diverse in terms of culture, age, and experiences. This allows class discussions to be rich and enlightening. The school has various support systems like the Academic Success Center, Math Lab, Student and Career Services departments, and ESL programs available to tutor students who need additional help. A growing community enabled me to grow academically and professionally.
