Distinguished Alumni Award
Siobhan S. Jager
2011 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient
Class of 2005, AS Nursing
Siobhan Jager’s career at Goodwin University began in 2004 after she completed a Bachelor of Art degree in Liberal Studies from Bay Path College. In 2005, Siobhan graduated from Goodwin’s Associate Degree in Nursing program and is now continuing her education in the RN-to-BSN program.
Siobhan has demonstrated an outstanding spirit of community, both within the confines of the Goodwin campus and the state as well as internationally. Last November, Siobhan joined a group of medical missionaries to serve the underprivileged citizens of the rural Northwest Region of the Dominican Republic, providing much needed medical screenings and surgical care. Her work also involved providing care to those in remote villages with little access to medical attention.
This year, Siobhan volunteered as a medical triage nurse for the Connecticut Mission of Mercy – a non-profit organization that provides free dental care to the underserved and uninsured. The Mission helped 1,852 patients receive needed cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, digital x-rays, fillings, extractions, root canals and interim partial dentures. Siobhan has already made a commitment to the Mission for 2012.
Siobhan also takes time to teach Zumba Fitness to residents of the Salvation Army’s Marshall House – a homeless shelter for women, men and children of all ages – because it helps increase their confidence and motivation. She also uses Zumba to assist a victim of a traumatic brain injury whose insurance no longer covers physical therapy. They believe that her work with him has helped improve his balance, strength and outlook.
On April 12, 2011, Siobhan was honored for her community service activities by the Department of Higher Education at the Connecticut Higher Education Community Service Awards Dinner. She is also the recipient of the 2005 Presidential Award for outstanding nursing.
Siobhan gives back to Goodwin University by serving on the Alumni Leadership Committee. She has also dedicated a seat in the auditorium to support the scholarship fund and has presented at student orientations as well as volunteered to help with Goodwin University fundraisers.
Goodwin University is proud to call Siobhan Jager an alumna. This award speaks highly of her selfless acts and contributions to the community.
