In 2008 Goodwin College initiated MOVE, an innovative program supported by a $300,000 grant from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. MOVE seeks to support the academic and personal success of men from disadvantaged backgrounds. While MOVE places a particular focus on men of color, the program also accepts male students who face general higher education challenges. MOVE works to propel its collective participant group towards achievement in the advanced learning environment.

To support each enrolled male's progress, the program combines:

  • Mentorship
  • Financial assistance
  • Academic advising
  • Enrichment activities
  • Career planning

MOVE will recruit 15 students each year through 2011 with the expectation that 80 percent of each cohort will successfully graduate with an associate's degree from Goodwin College. Sixty percent are further anticipated to proceed to a 4-year bachelor's degree program.
