MOVE Student

Advising and Mentorship

Advising

Each student enrolled in the program, deemed a fellow, is assigned to a specific academic advisor. The advisor meets with a fellow on a weekly basis to initiate class planning, discuss performance and offer general support. Conferences may also be held on an as-needed basis with the fellow’s parents or guardians to review progress toward the fellow’s academic goals. Personal counseling, workshops, career planning and bachelor’s level preparation are also part of this advisor relationship.

Mentorship

MOVE aligns the perspective and energy of faculty, Goodwin College peers and community professionals to bolster the fellow’s program experience. A faculty member and volunteer professional are each expected to provide 2 hours of monthly counseling and support to the student. Personal and career development is the focus.

Past volunteer mentors include a police officer, multiple attorneys and a chief surgeon, as well as Martin Luther King Achievement Award recipient Dr. Anthony Borgen. Mentors of both genders are welcome. Please note that no stipend is offered.
