Medical Assisting Learn More

Our program is offered as both a 36 credit Collegiate Certificate and a 60 credit Associate Degree. The difference between the two programs is the additional general education and elective courses that are included in the Associate Degree. One of the great features of our program is that all of the courses in the certificate program earn college credit, so if you decide to return to complete your associate or bachelor degree, all of those credits would be directly application to our AS in Medical Assisting and the majority of credits will apply to our BS in Health Sciences.

Classes are held both during the day and in the evening. Courses during the day and evening usually run 7 and 1/2 weeks. Students attending during the day complete the certificate program in 3 semesters, students attending in the evening part-time complete the certificate program in 4 semesters. The current schedule during the day is Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:00-2:30 with a break for lunch. Students attending in the evening meet from 5:45-9:30 on Mondays and Wednesdays and from 6-9 on Thursdays.

Our program prepares students to sit for both the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam and the Registered Medical Assistant Exam (RMA). In addition, with careful planning on the part of the student, students can also sit for the Registered Phlebotomy Technician (RPT) exam without taking any additional coursework. Our program is accredited by both CAAHEP and ABHES.

Courses begin in January, May, and September semesters for the day division and evening division.

If I can provide any additional information about the program, please do not hesitate to contact me at hkies@goodwin.edu or (860) 727-6976.

Sincerely,
Heather Kies, MHA, PBT (ASCP)
