What is a Medical Assistant?
Medical Assistants assist physicians in overseeing their practice in every respect. MAs are trained in administrative and clinical skills. Actual duties vary based on the practice type and size. Commonly performed duties includes:

  • Obtaining vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse and respiration)
  • Performing EKGs
  • Collecting heights and weights
  • Performing basic laboratory tests
  • Scheduling patients for exams
  • Corresponding with insurance companies
  • Updating and filing medical records

Where do Medical Assistants work?
The majority of Medical Assistants work in doctor’s office and outpatient clinics. Other employment opportunities include outpatient hospitals facilities, ambulatory healthcare services, and medical laboratories.

What certification exams am I eligible to sit for after graduation?

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) examination sponsored by the American Association of Medical Assistant (AAMA),
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) examination administered by the American Medical Technologies (AMT)
  • Registered Phlebotomy Technical (RPT) exam administered by the American -Medical Technologies (AMT)
