What Is Histology?
Histology is the study of microscopic anatomy of cells and tissue of plants and animals. Histotechnicians and Histotechnologists examine thin sections of tissue under light microscopes and electron microscopes. Through histological stains, you will learn to visualize or differentially identify microscopic structures. In our Histology degree and certificate programs you will gain hands-on experience and learn to detect tissue abnormalities and appropriate testing for tissue samples to ensure proper diagnoses.
Our Histology Programs
In our Histologic Science programs, you will gain hands-on experience by studying the microscopic anatomy of cells and tissues, detect tissue abnormalities, and learn the appropriate testing for tissue samples to ensure proper diagnoses. For greater flexibility, you can take classes on-campus or in a hybrid format, which combines the best of both on-campus and online learning.
Graduates are eligible to take the national examination given by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) which leads to certification as a Histotechnician (HT). Graduates that possess a baccalaureate degree may be eligible to sit for the Histotechnologist (HTL) national exam. Reflecting the guidelines set forth by our accrediting body, as of June 2015, 100% of Goodwin College Histotechnician graduates have passed the ASCP Board of Registry Certification Exam.
