Are you interested in an exciting career in a laboratory setting? Goodwin College offers a Histotechnician certificate that prepares you for a career in laboratories in the following settings: hospitals, privative labs, veterinary labs, and industrial research and public health facilities. Goodwin College offers this exciting program every January and September in an online and on-ground format.

If you presently work in a medical lab, Goodwin will work with your employer so that you can complete your lab requirements at your place of employment. This flexibility will help you advance in your career while allowing you to meet your professional and family responsibilities.

What is Histology?

Histology is the study of microscopic anatomy of cells and tissue of plants and animals. It is performed by examining a thin slice (section) of tissue under a light microscope or electron microscope. The ability to visualize or differentially identify microscopic structures is frequently enhanced through the use of histological stains. Histology is an essential tool of biology and medicine.

  • The NAACLS listed thirty-four histotechnician programs and four histotechnologist programs in 2010. In 2010, the average annual salary was $47,174 for histotechnicians and $54,080 for histotechnologists
  • Graduates are eligible to take the national examination given by the American Society of Clinical Pathology(ASCP) which leads to certification as a Histotechnician (HT). Graduates that possess a baccalaureate degree may be eligible to sit for the Histotechnologist(HTL) national exam.
  • One-hundred percent (100%) of the Goodwin College Histotechnician graduates have passed the national ASCP Board of Registry Exam *As of Nov 2008.
