Associate in Occupational Therapy AssistantRequest More InformationGoodwin College is delighted to unveil its newest Associate in Science degree program -Occupational Therapy Assistant! The demand is high for occupational therapy assistants- healthcare specialists who work with clients to help them overcome illness, injury, or disability to get them back to the activities that are important to them in life. The uses for Occupational Therapy extend to all aspects of a person’s life, including their career, family, and leisure. Occupational Therapy Assistants are employed in a variety of practice areas and Goodwin is excited to bring a program to campus. Goodwin’s Occupational Therapy Assistant degree will begin in the fall of 2010. The college invites interested students, both current and prospective, to ask questions and seek admission into the opening class. AccreditationThe Occupational Therapy Assistant program has applied for accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). Once accreditation of the program has been obtained, graduates will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapy assistant administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. Connecticut requires a license in order to practice occupational therapy and the license is based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination. Deanne Anderson, MS, OT/L is the Program Director for the Occupational Therapy Assistant program. Her biographical information can be found on the OTA Staff page.
