Administration
With a degree in Business a graduate will have the skills to solve problems,
make decisions, work with others, use technology, and manage themselves to
ensure both entrance into the workforce as well as to help them advance
professionally. Students pursuing a Business Studies degree may choose to
concentrate in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, International
Business, Human Resource Management, Professional Sales & Service, Office
Administration, or Medical Office Administration.

Criminal Justice
An
Associate Degree in Criminal Justice provides students with the opportunity
to experience and learn about professions in modern law enforcement,
security, emergency response, corrections and investigation.
Job Prospects*
- Opportunities should be excellent for qualified individuals in all
branches of the Armed Forces through 2016.
- Employment of probation officers and correctional treatment specialists
is expected to be excellent.
- Overall opportunities in local police departments will be excellent for
individuals who meet the psychological, personal, and physical
qualifications. There will be more competition for jobs in Federal and
State law enforcement agencies than for jobs in local agencies. Applicants
with military experience or college training in police science will have
the best opportunities in local and State departments

catastrophic events. As a Homeland Security employee, you can help secure our

The Human Services field has a broad range of opportunities, including
working with people to meet basic human needs, addressing quality of life
issues and promoting human growth and development. Students pursuing a Human
Services degree may choose to focus their studies on Gerontology, Youth
Development, Nonprofit Management, or be a Human Services Generalist. Human
Services careers and activities include: child protective services; youth
development; educational support services; services for people with special
physical and developmental needs; mental health services; counseling; case
management services; emergency and disaster services; recreational services;
assisted living centers; retirement communities; child or senior advocacy

- Job Prospects are expected to be excellent for social and human service
assistants, particularly for applicants with appropriate postsecondary

Health Science
Students who complete an Associate Degree in Health Science can gain entry
level positions in medical offices, hospitals, long-term care facilities,
and other health care agencies. Some students who are currently working in
health care use the degree to obtain higher level positions with their
current employer.
Students pursuing a Bachelor Degree in Health Science can expect even
greater career opportunities! Currently Goodwin is offering three tracks
with the Bachelor of Health Science degree including specialties in
Environmental Health, Health Care Administration, or a generalist Health
Science degree.

Histology
Histotechnicians prepare microscopic slides of tissue which are delicate and
require skill, understanding and patience. Professionals trained in
Histotechnology work in a laboratory setting preparing samples of tissue to
be used for diagnosing diseases, medical research and even training medical
personnel. Some examples of where there are Histology employment
opportunities include working in a hospital’s anatomic pathology laboratory;
research labs; veterinarian labs; MOH’s surgery; private labs; the medical

Medical Assisting
Certified Medical Assistants are multi-skilled practitioners who assume a
wide range of roles in physicians’ offices and other health care settings and
are viewed by physicians as vital partners in the health care system. Medical
Assistants will perform both administrative and clinical duties such as:
charting and filing patients’ medical records; handling billing and
bookkeeping; arranging for hospital admissions/laboratory services; recording
vital signs; preparing and assisting with patient exams; collecting and
preparing laboratory specimens; and many more!

Nursing
An
Associate Degree in Nursing will provide the class work and clinical
practice necessary to ensure that graduates can function effectively in
today’s healthcare industry. The program focuses on the process of nursing,
promotes critical thinking, fosters the development of moral and ethical
professional behaviors, and promotes continued self-development and personal
and professional growth.
A Bachelors Degree in Nursing builds on the skills developed on the
associate level and further prepares the student for graduate level
coursework. The RN to BSN program at Goodwin is designed to meet the needs
of the adult learner. The program focuses on developing and refining
technical skills, understanding the organization and finance of health
systems, developing professional values and an understanding of patients’
rights, as well as provides opportunities to relate class work into a global
context.

- Overall job opportunities for registered nurses are expected to be
excellent and are expected to grow much faster than the average. Because the
occupation is very large, many new jobs will result. In fact, registered

Respiratory Care
Respiratory Therapists are trained to work with adult and pediatric patients
including premature infants with cardio-pulmonary disorders. They perform
procedures that are diagnostic and therapeutic such as: administering
medication in aerosol form to help relieve breathlessness; obtaining and
analyzing blood and sputum specimens; using ventilators; performing
diagnostic tests for patients with sleep disorders; etc. Respiratory
Therapist job opportunities can be found in many settings including: acute
care hospitals; rehabilitation and long term care facilities; pulmonary

Paramedic
By enrolling and completing the Paramedic certificate program a student will
be prepared to sit for licensure as a paramedic in the state of Connecticut.
You will learn to evaluate a patient’s condition and apply life-saving care.
As a graduate of the program a student can find employment with fire
departments; private ambulance services; police departments; aeromedical
care; hospitals; and many more! This program is open to all students who hold
a current EMT-B or EMT-I certificate and have proof of certification in
Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Healthcare Provider or Professional
Rescuer by the American Heart Association or the Red Cross.

- Employment for EMTs and paramedics is expected to grow

Phlebotomy
The Phlebotomy program is a one semester program that students can enter three times a year. Phlebotomists
are skilled health professionals who specialize in the collection, processing, and laboratory testing of
blood specimens. Recipients of the phlebotomy certificate will develop both the communication skills
and familiarity with anatomy and physiology needed to become professionals in their field.

Medical Billing and Coding
Those pursuing a degree in medical billing and coding will be equipped with the skills
necessary to perform a range of activities including submitting claims to insurance companies,
state insurance agencies or the U.S. government; resolve discrepancies when claims are denied;
navigate and utilize a classification system to assign codes for all patient symptoms, diagnosis’s,
diseases, procedures, etc. that are used in insurance reimbursement and research; and many more! Upon
completion of the AS students will be prepared to sit for the Certified Professional Coder exam.
