Hoffman Family Library
Services for Faculty and Staff
The library staff looks forward to working with you. Listed below are some of the services we provide to the faculty and staff of Goodwin College. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
Instruction and Information Literacy
Faculty may arrange general or course-related instruction sessions for their students. These sessions, conducted by librarians in a classroom or library, are specific to each class and can provide hands-on practice with library resources. Librarians can also assist with incorporating information literacy into your syllabus and assignments.
To request course-related instruction for your course:
Use our Library Instruction Request Form
Reserves and Reserve Shelf
Faculty members may place materials on reserve in the library. Materials include books, articles, videos, DVDs, lectures on audiocassette, CDs, and study guides. These materials may be used by students only in the library and may not be checked out. Faculty members may also supply copies of class materials for students to use or copy in the library.
A list of current materials on hold can be found here: Goodwin Reserve Shelf
The Digital Commons @ Goodwin is an Institutional Repository (IR) that provides an organized and permanent digital presence for the intellectual and creative output of the Goodwin College community, with an aim to preserve and provide access to that work. Research and scholarly materials included will be selected and deposited by faculty, the Special Collections of the Hoffman Family Library, and academic departments on campus. This institutional repository provides a stable electronic location that is open to the entire academic community and beyond. All Goodwin College faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to publish work in the Digital Commons.
Digital Commons @ Goodwin allows academic departments, faculty, classes, student groups, and other organizations within Goodwin College to create collections to showcase their intellectual output. IRs are an excellent vehicle for working papers or copies of published articles and conference papers. Presentations, capstone projects, and other works not published elsewhere can also be published in the IR. Digital Commons @ Goodwin can accommodate just about any digital file type: text documents, photographs, audio files, and videos.
Collection Development and Suggestions for Purchase
The librarians at the Hoffman Family Library select books and other materials based on Goodwin College's curriculum, faculty research interests, and recommendations from the Goodwin Community.
Faculty and students are welcome to suggest items that should be added to the collection.

In addition to scholarly and popular journals, the databases give access to Atlases & Maps, Audio files, Biographies, Database Trials, Dictionaries & Encyclopedias, Directories, dissertations, E-book collections, Government Publications, Images, Standards, Statistics, and Technical Reports
The Hoffman Family Library offers an Interlibrary Loan service to its faculty, staff, and students. The service obtains materials from other libraries which are either not owned by the library or are not available. Materials requested through the Interlibrary Loan Service are typically received in two weeks or less. Faculty, staff, and students can use this service to obtain loans and copies of a variety of materials worldwide.
Many educational titles are available in a variety of formats, including videos, DVDs, CDs, and audiocassettes.
Remote Access to Library Resources
Library databases and electronic journals are available on campus, or off-campus to students, faculty, and staff using their Blackboard logins.
Subject Research Guides and Department Quick Guides
Librarians have developed research guides tailored to particular disciplines and to current hot topics. In many cases, research guides have been developed in collaboration with faculty for specific courses.
