Off-Campus Access to the Library's Databases

**We strongly suggest that you try to login into one of our database from home at least once in the beginning of each semester. If you need further assistance, please contact one of your Hoffman Family Librarians.**

Video Tutorial

Logging in to the library research databases from off campus can be confusing for some. To help, we created this video tutorial that walks you through each step of the process. Click the picture above to watch.

Step 1: Find the Database

First, go to the library website and select "Search" then "Databases" from the gray navigation bar, or choose "Perform research in the Databases" in the "Locate Resources" box. These links will both take you to the list of all of the research databases available for you to use. You can choose to view them arranged alphabetically by title or by subject.

Step 2: Pick a Database

Browse the list, read the descriptions, and choose the database you want to search. If you don't know where to start, Ask A Librarian!

Step 3: Determine Your Location

Look up. Look around. Where are you?

Are you on campus? Good! Click the link and start searching. Everyone on campus can access the databases instantly.

Are you off campus? Good! Click the link and proceed to Step 4.

Step 4: Log in to the Database

When you click a database link from an off campus location, you will usually be redirected to a login page that looks something like this (if not, skip to Step #5):

Your ID is the same user ID you use to log in to Sonis Web and Blackboard; it is usually two letters followed by a string of numbers.

If you don't know your ID, enter your student email address (the one that ends with "") in the ID recovery tool. If you don't know your ID or your email address, contact the IT Help Desk at 860-727-6743.

Your Password will be your SonisWeb password/PIN. In some cases, you may have received instructions for creating your own database password in your school email address.

If you don't know what PIN to use, you can change it by submitting a password change request.

Step 5a: Unique Resource Passwords

For boring technical reasons, some of the databases require you enter a special username and password when off campus. These include CQ Researcher and CLCD. Contact the library for instructions.

Step 5b: EBSCOhost Credentials

For some databases, there are more steps before you log in. You may have to perform a few extra steps. First, when prompted to log in, click "Shibboleth Login"—do not try to enter your ID and PIN, it will not work.

Then, choose "U.S. Higher Education" from the "Select your region or group" drop down menu.

Then, find "Goodwin College" on the list and click. You will then be redirected to the login page in Step 4.
