Installing Library Printers on Personal Laptops

Using Windows 7

  1. Open the Devices and Printers control panel.
  2. Select Add a Printer.
  3. Click on Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer, click Next.
  4. Click on The printer I want isn't listed.
  5. Click on Add a printer using TCP/IP address or hostname.
  6. Enter the IP Address of the printer (find this on a label on the printer; it should start with in the Host name or IP address field and check the box next to Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use. Click Next.
  7. If device type does not autoselect choose Hewlett Packard Jet Direct.
  8. Now you will select a driver. You have two choices:
    1. Use an HP driver that is already installed on your laptop (recommended).
      • For the first floor printer (ST211PRTLIB01 – HP LJ 9050), you can use the HP LaserJet M9050 MFP PCL6 or HP LJ 4200/43300 PCL6 driver.
      • For the second floor printer (PRT-LIB2ndB – HP LJ M601), HP LaserJet M9050 MFP PCL6 or HP LJ 4200/43300 PCL6 driver.
    2. Click Windows Update – be patient, this will take a while. When it finishes loading the list of drivers, choose the HP universal printing PCL6 driver which covers all HP LaserJet printers or choose the same driver which matches up with the printer.
  9. Give the printer a meaningful name and click Next
  10. Select Do not share this printer then click on Next
  11. Click on Finish.

Using Windows 8

  1. Click the Start button on the keyboard or got to the start screen.
  2. Type "advanced printer".
  3. select Settings below the search box.
  4. Click the Advanced Printer Setup.
  5. If the printer is not listed by default, click Next.
  6. Add the printer using TCP/IP by following the directions for Windows 7 above, starting at step 5.
