College Commencement
June 13, 2010
2:00 p.m.
Goodwin College River Campus Courtyard
One Riverside Drive, East Hartford
Honorary Degree Recipient:
Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary
Congratulations to the
students in Goodwin College’s 11th graduating class! The following details
are provided about the Commencement Ceremony to create an enjoyable
experience for you and your guests.
All graduating students
participating in commencement should report to the Community Room by 1:00
p.m. to help the ceremony start promptly.
Inclement Weather Plan
Goodwin College’s Commencement Ceremony will be held rain or shine at the
outdoor Courtyard. Graduates are welcome to wear rain gear over their gowns.
Use of umbrellas will not be permitted. Guests should come prepared for all
weather conditions, including rain and hot weather.
In the event of severe weather
that poses a safety risk (such as thunderstorms), the commencement ceremony
will move indoors into Goodwin College’s auditorium. All guests with tickets
will be able to enter the auditorium. We will accommodate additional guests
as space becomes available, but seating for guests without tickets is not
guaranteed.
Tickets
When graduates pick up their gowns, they will be given four tickets for
admission into the Commencement Ceremony. These tickets guarantee guests a
seat at the ceremony, which is taking place at our outdoor Courtyard.
Additional guests of the
graduates may attend the
outdoor graduation, but they will not be provided a seat. These guests may
stand or bring their own lawn chairs to place in designated areas.
Parking
Parking spaces are limited, so it is encouraged that all graduates and their
guests carpool whenever possible. Parking is not allowed along the street on
Riverside Drive. Guests are encouraged to arrive by 1:30 p.m. to allow
plenty of time to find a parking space and to walk to the Courtyard.
Guest Seating
Graduating students are welcome
to invite guests to share this momentous occasion with them. Please refer to
the Tickets section above for information regarding the number of guests who
can attend.
Guests of the graduates will be allowed into the Courtyard starting at 1:00 p.m. Seating is
on a first come, first served basis. Guests will not be allowed to reserve
or hold seats.
All guests should be seated by 1:45 p.m. so that the commencement ceremony
can begin on time. Guests arriving after the start of the ceremony will be
admitted at the discretion of ushers only.
Ceremony Etiquette
This day of celebration is an important milestone, not only for our
graduates but also for their guests. As we celebrate the achievements of our
graduates, please follow these guidelines so that commencement will be a
positive experience for all in attendance.
- The College requests that guests remain seated throughout the ceremony.
- Balloons will not be allowed in the Courtyard to ensure that all guests
can see the ceremony.
- Talking and noise should be limited during the ceremony.
- Please turn off all electronic devices, including cell phones, during the
ceremony.
Photography
A professional photographer will take a photograph of each graduate during
the ceremony when the graduates receive their diplomas. Graduates may pick
up their photograph at the College at a time to be announced.
Guests may take photographs from their seats, but they should remain seated
throughout the ceremony. Additional photographs will be available for
purchase through
www.muldoonphoto.com/weddings in July 2010.
Video
Goodwin College will stream the graduation ceremony live on our website. We
may also post videotaped portions of the graduation ceremony on the College
website. DVD copies of the video will not be available. Anyone with concerns
about appearing in the video should contact Kara Simmers in the
Communications Department at 860-727-6938 or
ksimmers@goodwin.edu.
Diploma Distribution
During the commencement ceremony, each graduate will receive a diploma
cover. The diploma will not be inside the cover. Immediately following the
ceremony, the diplomas will be distributed to the graduates in the Community
Room.
