Employee Status Definitions
Full-time Faculty are individuals who are employed at least 35 hours per week. Generally, full-time faculty are eligible to participate in Goodwin College’s benefit programs, subject to the terms, conditions and limitations of each benefit program. All Goodwin College Department Chairs work a minimum of 35 hours weekly. Department Chairs and Program Directors will be treated as full-time faculty for purposes of paid time off.
Part-time Faculty are those who are regularly scheduled for fewer than 35 hours per week and are ineligible to participate in Goodwin College’s benefit programs.
Adjunct Faculty are those who are employed on a semester-basis to teach courses for a specific dollar amount per course, as outlined in a contract from the Department Chair. Adjunct faculty are ineligible to participate in Goodwin College’s benefit programs, except those required by federal and state law.
Professor Emeritus: The President may confer the title of Emeritus upon a retiring professor (after a minimum of twenty years of full-time service) who has given honorable and distinguished full-time service to the College. More specifically, the honor is bestowed upon faculty members in recognition of his/her honored role in the College community and their ongoing potential for continued contributions to the intellectual and cultural life of the College. A faculty member may be nominated for this title by a Faculty Senate member, Program Director or a Department Chair. Please contact the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
