Drug & Alcohol Policy

Goodwin College prohibits the improper use of drug and alcohol on campus or at College-related functions. If you report to work or a work-related event under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs, exhibit inappropriate behavior, or demonstrate a performance problem that may lead the College to have reasonable suspicion that you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you may be disciplined up to and including termination.

Please note that while Goodwin College permits the legal use of prescribed drugs on the job, they must not impair your ability to perform your duties, nor endanger your safety or the safety of others. If you need to take prescribed drugs which may affect your attentiveness, cause drowsiness, or otherwise impair your abilities at work or work-related events, please notify the Human Resources Department to explore appropriate solutions.

Under the influence during work hours

Being impaired or under the influence of drugs or alcohol is strictly prohibited during work hours. If you are showing signs of being under the influence, you will be subject to disciplinary procedures. If found to have been under the influence, then penalizing action up to and including termination of employment will take place. Goodwin College reserves the right to require immediate drug or alcohol testing for all employees if it has a reasonable suspicion that the employee is under the influence of drugs or alcohol which adversely affects or could adversely affect such employee’s job performance. In this case, transportation will be provided by Goodwin College. Failure to comply may result in serious consequences up to and including termination of employment.
