Computer Literacy (CAP 110) Credit by Exam (CBE) Information

In order to successfully test out of the CAP 110 course, students need to have advanced knowledge and skills in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel 2007 or 2010 as well as knowledge on computer components, terminology and maintenance.

The registration process to take the CAP 110 Credit by Exam (CBE) is quick and easy but there is some important information you need to know first. You must register to take the exam no later than the scheduled exam date. The exam will only be offered once a semester on a Saturday from 9 am to 12 pm. Please see below for the test dates for 2011-2012 semesters:

Semester Exam Dates
Summer 2012 6/23/12

In order to register for the CAP 110 CBE you must follow the steps below:

  1. Complete the online registration form.
    • All contact information must be correct to receive confirmation of your acceptance to the exam. If the Exam Proctor is unable to contact you with a confirmation you will not be registered for the exam.

  2. Once your registration is submitted you will receive an e-mail confirmation of your acceptance to the exam.
    • Please wait one full week to receive your confirmation. If you have not received your registration confirmation after one week please contact Amy Beauchemin at 860-913-2127 or via e-mail at abeauchemin@goodwin.edu.
    • In order to be eligible to take the CBE your status as a student and attendance to any CAP 110 courses will be verified.

  3. Finally pay the $100 Credit by Exam fee.
    • Payment must be made to the Accounting Department at Goodwin College.
    • You must request and keep a receipt of payment to be admitted to the exam.

On the day of your test, it is extremely important to bring with you, a picture id (such as a driver's license, passport or state ID card) and your receipt of payment. If you do not have this documentation with you, for whatever reason, on the day of the exam you will not be allowed to enter the exam and must register again for a future exam date.

In order to receive three credits for CAP 110 you must pass the CBE with an 73% or better. If you receive a grade of 72% or lower, you must register and successfully complete the CAP 110 course.

Please Note:

  • Taking the CBE will give you credit for CAP 110 at Goodwin College, the credits earned via CBE are not transferable to another institution.
  • Only currently enrolled students may take this exam. Credit will NOT be awarded, even for a passing score, unless you are currently enrolled at the time the exam is taken. If you have any questions please contact Nichole Petersen (npetersen@goodwin.edu).
