This includes but is not limited to, creating documents in Word, spreadsheets and charts in Excel and presentations in PowerPoint. Students will also learn about the world-wide web, Internet usage, e-mail functions and the effects of social media on society.

Goodwin College requires all students take a three credit computer course to fulfill the graduation requirement of obtaining computer literacy knowledge while at Goodwin College. This can be obtained a variety of ways:

  • Students may register for and successfully complete a CAP 110 course by obtaining a C- or better fulfilling the computer literacy requirement.
  • Students, who have computer knowledge from previous life experiences, may take an exam to test out of the CAP 110 course and fulfill Goodwin's computer literacy requirement.
  • Students who have completed computer courses when previously enrolled in school may be able to transfer credits to fulfill the computer literacy requirement.
  • Students who are Microsoft Certified Application Specialist is Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint 2007 or 2010 may be able to receive credit for your license or Certification which would fulfill the computer literacy requirement.

Regardless of the how students satisfy the computer literacy requirement, all students must be able to demonstrate:

  1. Basic familiarity with computer hardware, operating systems, and file concepts;
  2. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  3. Working knowledge of the Internet and electronic mail.
