Getting started

In order to experience success in your job search, it is necessary to prepare appropriately, search effectively and devote time and effort. Below you will find information to guide you in your search; however, students are strongly encouraged to schedule an appointment with a career specialist from the Career Services team for assistance with getting started and utilizing the resources below.

Résumés, cover letters, and portfolios

Résumés, cover letters, and portfolios are documents used by employers in the job application process to narrow down potential candidates. When embarking on your job search, you must ensure that your résumé, cover letter or portfolio are the best representations of yourself, your skills and your fit with the organization you are applying to. The Office of Career Services is able to assist students with the creation and/or editing of these professional documents. To learn more, click here.

Job search websites

Internet job boards are a great way to find out which companies in your area are hiring and what kind of positions in your field are available. Try specifying your job search by using industry specific job boards instead of only using national sites. You can also visit company websites to see what jobs are available. Network

Career fairs

Career fairs are another great way to learn about companies and available jobs. Job fairs allow you to meet employers in person and possibly secure interviews.
