The Excitement and Flexibility of Nursing

clock February 15, 2011 13:48 by author gcadvising

Why is Nursing a great career?  It is a rewarding career offering excitement and flexibility.  Nurses assist in care for the physically or mentally ill, injured and disabled or patients in hospitals, nursing care facilities, and mental health settings.  Why is the job flexible? High employment demand, due to an aging population, helps create plentiful opportunities for these positions. Nearly one in four nurses work part time, and because patients might need care 24 hours a day, work hours are available at nights and on weekends.

Nurses have exciting jobs because you can work in areas such as trauma centers, emergency rooms, operating rooms, and other various units throughout the hospital.  Nurses may confront life-and-death situations every day. They must provide quick and accurate assessments of in-coming patients and care for them under stressful conditions.  The work of a nurse is never done because treating patient conditions, dispensing medicine, and providing comfort to a patient is a full-time job.   Here at Goodwin College, we offer both an Associates Degree in Nursing (with RN Certification) and a Bachelors Degree in Nursing.  Students interested in this program should contact the Academic Advising Center in Room 133.  Prospective students should contact the Admissions Office.

Why wait and put off an exciting career any longer!?

Use of Career Services Linked to Job Offers

clock July 19, 2010 08:00 by author gcadvising
When students at a college or university think of career services, often, they believe that it’s a service that they may or may not utilize until their final semester and even then, perhaps to help them with their resume or finding a job.   Goodwin College Career Services advocates getting to know your Career Counselor, David Zoppoli, early on in your academic experience.  There are many career development activities that you can engage in throughout your time here.  Please see my “Career Development Timeline” at: http://www.goodwin.edu/pdfs/Career_Planning_Timeline.pdf for ideas. Also, a 2010 student survey conducted by NACE, the National Association of Colleges and Employers, showed that the more students utilized their college’s career services, the better their chances of getting a job more quickly after graduation.  This is even more important during these continuing difficult economic times.  To read about this correlation, visit: http://www.naceweb.org/so/2010/0623/job_offers/  To contact David Zoppoli, Career Counselor at Goodwin College, e-mail him at dzoppoli@goodwin.edu or call (860) 727-6768.
