HSC 102 - CPR/First Aid and Basic Crisis Intervention

1 credit (PREREQUISITE: PHB 120 OR HSM 112)

This course covers the principles and procedures of providing basic life support to victims of airway obstruction, respiratory arrest and/or cardiac arrest. Which can lead to certification in basic life support by the American Heart Association. In addition, students will learn first aid skills a person needs to act as the first link in the emergency medical system (EMS). Finally, students will be taught basic skills and techniques that help participants to stay calm in emergencies and make decisions with appropriate steps in controlling the medical situation until emergency service personnel arrive. Through the use of guest speakers and case study analysis, this course will examine a variety of crisis management styles. (F, Sp, Su)
