SWK 110 - Introduction to the Social Work Profession

3 credits (PREREQUISITE: NONE)

This course explores the profession of social work as a career choice. An overview of social services is provided including the history of the field as well as the values and skills required for generalist social work practice. There is a focus on social justice, human rights perspective, and social work practice as a response to social problems. Students will be introduced to NASW Code of Ethics and ethical issues that professional social workers face. This course is intended to help students assess the "fit" between themselves and the social work profession. (F, Sp, Su)
