BUS 205 - Employment Law and Benefits

3 credits (PREREQUISITE: NONE)

Students will learn the basics of employment law, compensation, and benefits, so as to avoid potential pitfalls and grow their organizations by hiring, evaluating, and compensating employees effectively. This course focuses on two key areas. Students will first assimilate all necessary information about employees and their benefits including taxes, discrimination issues, unionization, and workplace safety. Students will also learn effective evaluation techniques and how to resolve issues before they escalate. In addition, students will learn the proper methods and procedures to terminate employees. Following employment laws at both the federal and state levels is also emphasized in this course. (F, Sp)
