DHP 106 - Pharmacology and Pain Management

4 credits (PREREQUISITES: DHP 104, DHP 110/120; COREQUISITE: DHP 103)

The pharmacology segment of this course will provide the student with basic pharmacology knowledge as it pertains to the practice of dental hygiene. The course will guide students to effectively communicate with patients, dentist and other medical professionals regarding medications commonly used in a dental office or medications frequently taken by patients. The pain management segment of this course will provide students with the academic and practical aspects of administration of pain control techniques and local anesthesia. The students will understand the general principles and the indications for administering anesthesia. The laboratory section will expose students to the application of pain management and anxiety for dental patients. (Su)
