OPS 101 Introduction to Ophthalmic Science

3 credits (PREREQUISITE: ADMISSION TO THE OPHTHALMIC SCIENCE PROGRAM; COREQUISITE: "C" OR BETTER IN BIO 214)

This introductory course in Ophthalmic Science will introduce students to the field of opticianry. Students will study the scope of practice for opticians, optical terminology, related careers in eyecare and professional ethics. Students will discover how lenses correct vision, components of ophthalmic frames, history of eyewear, prescription analysis, professionalism in the work place, career development, and state and national opticianry regulations.
