ASL 201 - Sign Language II

3 credits (PREREQUISITE: ASL 101)

This course is a continuation of Beginning American Sign Language I. Students will continue to acquire the fundamentals of ASL, but with more nuanced usage. Unique conceptual grammatical elements such as classifiers, that are hand shapes representing a specific subject, will be explored and emphasized during this semester. Students will experience and acquire ASL skills through conversations, group activities, role-play and interpreted music. This class will also continue to address the various aspects of Deaf culture, such as current issues, sociology, education and theater, with weekly readings and discussions. CU (Sp, Su)
