ASL 101 - Beginning American Sign Language

3 credits (PREREQUISITE: NONE)

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of American Sign Language (ASL). ASL is a conceptual language with its own grammar and structure and not merely encoded or fingerspelled English. Students will experience and acquire ASL skills through conversations, group activities, role-play and interpreted music. This class will also address the various aspects of Deaf culture, such as sociology, education and theater, with weekly readings and discussions. CU (F, Sp)
