HUM 311 - Greek Tragedy in Translation

3 credits (PREREQUISITES: ENG 101 and ENG 102)

This course examines the extant tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides, and the world which frames these works; includes philosophical issues of determinism and free will, moral law and man-made law, human nature under incredible strain, changing relationships of friendship and enmity, and overweening pride bred of success. Students will consider the evolution and conventions of Greek drama and its influence on later literature, music, and film. (Cross-referenced with ENG 311) CU MC (F)
