MATH 135 - Contemporary Mathematics

3 credits (PREREQUISITE: PLACEMENT EVALUATION SCORE OR COMPLETION OF MATH 099 WITH "C" OR BETTER.)

A survey of a wide range of topics with an emphasis on critical thinking and problem solving, giving the student the opportunity to apply mathematics to the solution of everyday problems. Includes simplifying algebraic expressions, solving linear and literal equations, graphing, problem solving with proportions and percents, polygons, angle measure, similar triangles, the Pythagorean Theorem, perimeter, area, volume and unit conversion in both U.S. and metric units, discount, simple and compound interest, credit purchases, mortgages, and an introduction to probability.
